Costume College, planning

Because I’m Just Not Going to Get Anything done Until I Decide…

What to make for the Costume College gala (and probably the GBACG Guillotine Picnic)? Some kind of stripey 1760s/70s pet-en-l’air (too similar to what I wore last year?), one of these 1772 robes a l’anglaise (pretending that the greenish cast to the blue dress makes it green, or the orange [is orange too close to the peach I used for my francaise?]), or this 1790 stripey redingote/anglaise ensemble (might have some red/white left over from my candy cane dress, but is it too boring to make another ensemble in that fabric?). CADD strikes again! Must decide! Mind consumed with thoughts of ruching and big hair!

I vote Redingote/Anglaise ensemble-but only if it HAS to work for both events. I love the Redingote idea for a daytime outdoor event, but not so much for the gala (which seems much more evening-wear oriented). No matter what you choose, it’s going to be smashing!

It doesn’t HAVE to work for both events… the gala is more the issue than the picnic (I can always wear something in my wardrobe for the picnic).

I vote redingote and stripes! As the owner of a redingote and stripes myself, I find it perfect for all occasions–jaunty, insoucient, and very very comfy.

The Redingote is definitely the more striking of the two pictures you posted. It’s too bad you don’t have orange stripes, like in the picture.

I vote something 1790s because who doesn’t want to have big hair, a ginormous hat, and an oversized rump? Something like this: http://www.marquise.de/en/1700/pics/1790_3.shtml so you can choose different colours to use. Thus, you could stick with green (also my favourite) and add another crazy, bold colour that almost clashes. But I’m sure that whatever you decide on will look fabulous.

Colleen: really, you see orange? I see red and white or poss. red and gold.

Mala: yes, I do like that one too although the underdress is satin, which would be expensive…

    What about this:

Perfect for the leftover candy cane stripes, pair it with a blue skirt, and a jaunty hat!

    They’re both lovely!

I really like the velvet (?) redingote. There’s a stripey redingote or anglaise or something from Kohler that I’d love to reproduce one day. So go ahead and start the 1790’s trend. ;-)

u could also lightly dye the red stripy a goldish tan, making the white more goldish biege and the red more towards a redish orange. then it would be a bt more different, and closer to the image. i really love the stripey with the black velvet. it’s also totally different froma nything else u have as far as i know. which is even better.
