Gwendolen – Done!

Except for still a little bit of poochiness on the side bust — can’t decide if I should just extend the side dart up higher, or live with it.  And it looks like I have a little too much width in the bodice back around the shoulders… but I may be too lazy to fix that!  It would require taking the sleeves off, which sounds hard.

  1. Amazing! Well it was the era of side boob pads! I say add a bit of cotton quilters batting and it should smooth it all out quite easily. I love the velvet collar and neckline of it!

  2. I love this outfit, and the time period in general. You sure are a stickler for details and accuracy! Lovely dress, hope I get to see it in person at Dickens Fair. 😀

(This dress makes me want to watch the film again!)

  3. So very gorgeous! Since I am about to begin an 1873 English riding habit (totally out of my area in both time and place), do you have any reccomendations on patterns for bodices? Skirts, I’ve got covered, undies- all taken care of, but bodices, well… not so much. And your creations are always so beautiful. Any recomendation for a good place to start?

  4. Jenny – you make me laugh, because this is one of my “good enough” projects, not “100% anal”! 🙂

Brittney – I would check out the Truly Victorian patterns. They are well made, have a great fitting system, and you could always adapt them if they’re not exactly the right design.
