Although I don’t tend to follow Broadway too closely (not being near enough to go!), there’s a production of Les Liaisions Dangereuses currently on stage with Laura Linney (Marquise de Merteuil) and Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter, as Cecile) that has quite nice costuming! I particularly like the Marquise’s goldish gown with reddish trimmings. You can see photos on the official site, as well as a video preview at Broadwayworld.com. The only thing that ISN’T grabbing me is Mme de Tourvel’s blue dress – zzzz – but then it’s probably to show her character’s boring nice-ness, eh?

I’m liking Cecile’s light yellow dress with the zone front in the preview. I agree with you on the blue dress. Plus it has funny pouffing in the shoulders.
is it just me, or did it seem as if most of the actors had no range of emotion and were merely reciting their lines?
I liked the red dress but I’m with you on the blue. zzz.
Also, there’s no engeagents(sp?) on the blue dress; wasn’t that more an early 18th century fashion? This takes place in the 1770’s, right?
Ughh… the blue dress is killing.
Plus, for a story originally published in 1782, the cuffs are way outdated as fashionable aristo wear, and the engageantes are missing. Wasn’t sure what to make of Valmont’s long hair, either— thought that trend came around more 1790-ish?
I gotta agree, I DO really like the goldish dress with the red trimmings. Really pretty.
Ben Daniels! *swoon*

Mala 14: yes, you’re right about the overly puffed shoulders – I’d missed that!
Peri: yeah, a little emotionless, you’re right. But pretty!
Per parole: it’s funny, they’re always mis-setting Dangerous Liaisons (ie no one has actually set it in the 1780s). Weird, huh? Esp. since the 1988 movie has very 1770s costumes and 1750s hair!
