While the physical exhibit has closed, you can still check out the online version of the Chic Chicago exhibit at FIT. All the costumes are from the Chicago History Museum’s collection. A lot of really pretty stuff, but I am particularly digging this 1927 Lanvin robe de style (the trim is amazing!).

Oh god that butterfly dress is incredible!! Also I am completely in love with the 50s red Dior dress.
The trim on that dress really is spectacular and I love the idea of bringing back hoop pockets.. (I am all for dressing like the 1700s everyday except I think I would miss my sweat pants..)
I saw this exhibit and I am surprised that they did not include the black velveteen gown by Balenciaga in the on line pictures. I thought it spectacular in its simplicity. I met a woman there who had been a model for Claire McCardell and she agreed with me that this was one of the best in the show.
