2. GREAT list, but why haven’t you included Barry Lyndon (1975)? Those costumes are the height of authenticity.

4. Just the list I’ve been looking for. I am reading a book that takes place in the 1700s, hence I am in the mood for a bit of visual media during the same time period. Don’t the 1980s Scarlet Pimpernel. Perfection!

6. I was looking for just this column because this week I had seen “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Amadeus,” and “Barry Lyndon” (which had gotten raves for its costuming and an Oscar nomination)
   But I have a question about the little screen: Last episode of “Sleepy Hollow,” several of the Continental Army officers, including Capt Ichabod Crane, were wearing these odd hats, wide brim with a cylindrical crown, of a type I’ve never seen before, and I’ve been in Philadelphia since 76. Any ideas? Since they coulad have more easily put them in tricornes, there seemed to be a point to it (but not to the hat).
