pesky boys!

Does anyone have ANY resources for 1920s menswear? I need a pattern for pants and for a vest (The Husband Who Never Attends Costume Events has agreed to participate in 20th century events [he does actually really like the period and happily goes antiquing with me and will join me in long discussions as to how lame it is that no one wears hats anymore] which means he’s suddenly on a “BUT IS IT THE RIGHT THREAD COUNT?” rampage over his outfit for the Gatsby picnic).

I’ve looked on ebay (naturally) and on a bazillion vintage clothing/pattern sites, but I just can’t find ANYTHING! Help me out here!

more costumey cinema

Some random costumey film links and news:

  • Hundreds of behind the scenes photos from the upcoming Vanity Fair
  • Andrew Davies (writer of Pride & Prejudice among many other really good costume adaptations) is writing the script for a new version of Brideshead Revisited, set to star Paul Bettany, Jennifer Connelly and Jude Law (yum)
  • Keira Knightley is set to star in a new version of Pride & Prejudice; not too sure how I feel about this… can you really improve on the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle 1995 version?
  • Shekhar Kapur has plans to make a sequel to his much-debated (among costumers and historians) film Elizabeth; currently titled Golden Age and so far starring Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth again. Get ready for the listserv debates!

whoa

Butterick has come out with a new corset pattern for both 18th c. stays and 19th c. corsets (4 views) that actually look kind of interesting! It’s pattern number 4254. The boning layouts look pretty darn good, although (as always with Big 4 patterns) I’m wondering about the ease and construction techniques.
