The Everson Museum of Art (Syracuse, NY) is presenting an interesting-sounding exhibition called, “Marie Antoinette: Styling the 18th-Century Superstar”. It features 20th and 21st-century fashion design inspired by the 18th-century fashion aesthetic of Marie Antoinette. You can see some photos on their website.
Marie Antoinette’s Gown
Cross-posted from everywhere, but too fabulous not to do so: the Royal Ontario Museum will be exhibiting (only through 10/26!) a dress believed to have been made by Rose Bertin for Marie Antoinette. WOW! They’ve posted a video podcast about the dress which is fascinating, and doc_holliday posted photos of it here on Livejournal. I wish I could get to Toronto, stat!
George Barbier Exhibit in Venice
Who doesn’t love the gorgeous Art Deco fashion illustrations of George Barbier? There is an exhibition going on now at the Museo Fortuny in Venice (through Jan. 5, 2009) on his work. Check out information about the exhibit and some gorgeous reproductions of his work. It looks like there is a catalog, available in Italian and English, although I can only find the Italian version online.
unCommon Threads Online Exhibit
I just came across a nice online exhibition on wedding dress at the Missouri Historical Society: unCommon Threads: Stories of Missouri Brides.
In other news, I WISH I WERE SEWING… but I’m moving, which is a very large undertaking. The bad news? All my sewing stuff has been packed up for a while and won’t come out until about Costume College (sniff!). The good news? I’m going to get a REAL sewing room in the new place! Yay! I’ll try to keep things interesting around here in the meantime, but sadly I won’t be able to get back to any projects until early August.
Chic Chicago online exhibit
While the physical exhibit has closed, you can still check out the online version of the Chic Chicago exhibit at FIT. All the costumes are from the Chicago History Museum’s collection. A lot of really pretty stuff, but I am particularly digging this 1927 Lanvin robe de style (the trim is amazing!).
