Stepford Wives (& Other Events)

So while I may be a lazy costumer these days, I did manage to get all dressed up 1950s-style to go to GBACG’s Stepford Wives tea yesterday! A small crowd but lots of fun people were there (including my husband, who comes to post-1920 events. Yay!) in faaaabulous attire — great hats and shoes especially. We were all wearing stuff of our grandmothers (clothes, jewelry) — I wore my glamorous ex-Ziegfeld Follies showgirl grandmother’s big rhinestone pin and her honking purple cocktail ring, a vintage 1950s blue dress and an annoyingly perky vintage hat. The food was great — cucumber and watercress sandwiches! and mini-cheesecakes! — and the tea was DIvine (they had this something/something/CHOCOLATE tea which was scrumptious). And yes, it was all just perfect (<– said in perky Stepford voice) — except for the rain (I learned one shouldn’t wear open-toed shoes when it’s wet out).

But most important… PHOTOS!

aaaand — last weekend I had a 1960’s co-birthday (me & my husband Michael) at which I wore the red 1960s repro dress I was working on a month or two ago (and big hair! and a tiara!). If you’d like to see photos, you can see them here on my Flickr account. Photos of the dress will get added to this site soon-ish!

More Dickens Pics

I’ve just added a raft of new pictures (scroll down) from last Sunday at Dickens Fair. Sunday was GBACG day, and wow, were there some stunning costumes! I’m really glad I wasn’t trying to judge the costume contest. A very fun day running into lots of people I know, plus I actually got a few dances in, and of course made time for tea and scones (and rum cake!).

Costume College Meetup

Will you be attending Costume College this year? Are you a GBACG member, friend, or Northern California costumer? Or do you just want to hang out with some cool people? If so, please join us!

GBACG COSTUME COLLEGE MEETUP
FRIDAY, JULY 29
9:00pm
AIRTEL PLAZA HOTEL BAR (Clipper Club Lounge)

Any Northern California costumers (or anyone interested in hanging out with us!) are invited to join us for a chance to mingle! After you’ve had a browse in the marketplace (which opens Fri. night after Orientation), come by the Clipper Club Lounge (on the first floor of the hotel) for a cocktail or soda (you buy).

No costumes necessary, although if you do dress up, we’ll be sure to point and say, “ooooo, PRETTY!”

GBACG members: don’t forget to wear your guild pins throughout the College weekend, so we can all recognize each other!

Belmont Stakes Images

Sorry for the delay – I’ve put up version 1 of my photos from GBACG’s Belmont Stakes event. Version 2 will be forthcoming as soon as the overachiever husband finishes fiddling with our group pictures (moral of the story: don’t ask the artist to merge panoramic photos, especially when he has 50 other important things to do, because even if you say “never mind” he will insist on doing it, but then run out of time).

The event itself was excessively fun. Everyone looked REALLY fabulous — there were lots of stripeys (yay!) plus our very own 1912 Barbie (“betting on horses is hard!”). We were seated right next to the windows, so had a great view, and it was a quick walk down to the paddock and racetrack. I had fun making my $2 bets and even won a few (okay, and lost a few too, but how could I not bet on a horse named Plush Velvet?).

I’ll get the group photos up as soon as I can.
