Okay! We are on track! The gala dress is almost done (about 30 min. of handsewing needed, plus I’ll do closures in the car on the way down). Lady Maud fits. 1950s dress has had hem let out. Now I just need to write the packing list of doom, finish up my class presentations and handouts this afternoon, run to the drugstore tonight, pack tomorrow night. I heard “Vogue” on the radio yesterday and it made me all excited. Yay!
Costume College Plans
It’s my usual refrain – I’m not dead! I’ve just been feeling strangely hermit-like. But I’m thinking about peeping my head out of my shell to talk about Costume College. My classes are nearly done, which is a good thing. Still some practicalities for the hair/makeup class to work out. What I’m going to wear is only semi-decided — I stopped working on the Florentine dress (bored with it!) and instead picked up the Daniel Deronda dress, only to have the DD dress morph into something else.
I’m sad b/c I love the dress from the film, but the fabric/design just kept tugging in another direction, so it’s now going to be my gala dress — but my hermitage has sapped my desire for online updates. So you’ll just have to be surprised! Tonight after work I have to head to Britex for ribbon, then this weekend (Fri-Sun) is going to be marathon sewing weekend. Luckily the hubby is out of town, so I can take over the house with my costume movies and make a big mess.
So that means — Thursday night: fabulous pink & black vintage 1950s dress that Trystan is going to kill me for; Friday night: Lady Maud; Saturday night: the-dress-that-used-to-be-the-Daniel-Deronda dress; Sunday morning underwear breakfast: probably my 18th c. undies; Sunday day: (for the tea) the chemise dress (I cave to peer pressure!). Civvies for Friday and Saturday days – I’m so much more comfortable teaching/going to classes in jeans plus that means I get to wake up 5 min. before breakfast.
I am getting excited about getting to hang out with all my costumer peeps, and see what you all have been sewing, and go to classes, and have pink drinks! Yay!
Costume College
Are you in my 18th century hair/makeup class at Costume College, or do you have that time slot free? Would you be willing to be a hair and/or makeup model? If so, please contact me or comment here. When I switched to Blogger comments, I lost all the comments from people who volunteered!
Please Someone Stop Me
Tell me that there’s no way I can finish the Florentine gown, start and finish the Daniel Deronda dress, AND make the Comtesse de Poligac’s chemise gown from Marie Antoinette, all before Costume College. Someone stop me before I hurt myself!
Costume College Thoughts
Got my limited class confirmations — I’m in Sarah’s French hood class, and the burn testing fabrics classes — yay! Got both of the ones I wanted. I’ve so scaled back on limiteds — I’ve found that I don’t really enjoy making things at College, and signing up for a limited commits your time. I’d rather be free to run around to whichever classes suit my fancy — plus the all important socializing!
I’m starting to think about my classes. I want to tweak the 18th c. overview class. In the past, I’ve done it very chronologically, but I’m thinking it might work better to show the basic elements and how those changed over time (ie sleeves, for example). Not sure if that’ll be more or less confusing! And I need to figure out how to work the models for the hair & makeup class (thanks to those who’ve volunteered, I’ll be contacting you soon!).
And then there’s the all important what to wear question! I’m thinking about something for Thurs. night, Fri. night, Sat. night gala, and Sun. tea — although crikey, that’s four costumes! Definitely the Daniel Deronda dress for the Sun. tea. The Gala dress could be either the Florentine or Lady Maud dresses — depends on which one turns out more fabulous. I don’t think I have time or money to get more done than the Florentine and Daniel Deronda dresses by August… So that means I need 2 more costumes. I love the bonnet on my Meg dress, but I don’t really want to deal with a hoopskirt so that one may be out — or I could wear it over my crinoline instead? Hmm, that’s only three costumes. Maybe I’ll make an evening bodice for the Daniel Deronda dress, and so get more wear out of that?
