A new research resource: 1930’s hats and hairstyles. These are photos of my grandmother and her friends. I’m hoping to add more photos to it soon.
Démodé has a new home at http://demode.tweedlebop.com/, and…
I’ve got a new project underway (c. 1796 Danish dress), and…
I just whipped out an 18th century corset over the weekend (photos to come soon) when I should have been writing a book review.
(Really, it’s not that I have too much time on my hands!)
All sorts of updates! My 1836 evening gown is done, and I’ve added new photo galleries from the March 16th Moulin Rouge and June 29th SDI balls.

Bath Museum of Costume
The Museum of Costume in Bath has revamped their website — better design, and some nicer photos of some of their collection. I stumbled across “The Costume Drama Game” on their site, which is one of those “dress the mannequin in the appropriate historical clothing” Java games… It has some REALLY weird clothes for each period — the 1790’s figure is supposed to wear a robe a la francaise and really weird hat, the 1830’s figure ends up being “correctly” dressed in something that looks way more 1890’s to me, and I have NO IDEA what’s going on with the 1800 figure’s dress (looks 1830’s to me!). Anway, check it out. It’s odd. |

retro sewing
I have finally gotten around to subscribing to SewRetro, a mailing list for sewers of vintage style clothing from the 1930’s through the 1960’s. I’ve been a subscriber of h-costume for years and years to support my interests in Elizabethan through Victorian costuming, but have recently branched out into the 1940’s. I bought a ton of patterns on ebay, and currently have three dresses under way — Vintage Vogue 1943 dress which I’m making in a fabulous cherry print rayon, Vintage Vogue 1937 dress, which is pretty much finished (except for the hem) but doesn’t look too hot on me (I’m way too curvy for 1930’s styles, I think), and a vintage pattern I found on ebay. Now I just have to find some really good shoes to go with these dresses… |
