If you’re interested in Art Deco or Japanese fashion, you’ll want to check out two exhibits at the UC Berkeley Art Museum: Meiji a la Mode: A Modernizing Japan, 1868–1912 (Aug. 24 2005 – Dec. 23 2005) and Taisho Chic: Japanese Modernity, Nostalgia, and Deco (Sept. 14 2005 – Dec. 23 2005). Taisho Chic has a book that’s been out for a few months. I leafed through it a while back and it was really gorgeous; I think this exhibition should be great.
Finally!
The exhibit catalog that accompanies the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibit, Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century, will finally be published on Oct. 1, 2005. Here’s a link to the book at Amazon.
Lord of the Rings Dress
Since I’m not actually doing much sewing… read more about my Lord of the Rings dress project
I Swear I Didn’t
I did NOT just drop a large amount of money on some really cute vintage-style dresses (and a smart flower pin) at Trashy Diva. I swear I didn’t. It would also be wrong of me to direct your attention to Manifesto Clothing’s new styles, and also to point out that they do custom work (nor should I tell you that they recently custom made me – oh the joy of not doing it myself! – a very smart 1940s style dress). Nope. I’m keeping my mouth (and wallet) shut. You can’t prove anything.
Small Sigh of Relief
The Costume ADD in me always feels better when I update my list of costuming plans for the next millennium. It could happen! Provided I don’t keel over!
