I’m writing a paper concerning women’s clothing in the late colonial/early US periods. I would like to get the perspectives of those who have recreated and worn these types of clothes. Would it be possible for you to answer some of my questions?

Thank you for your time,
Emmalia Harrington

Dear Kendra,

I love your site! I was a fallera in 1980; I’m an American but was there studying, sang in the choir (Valencia) and often go back. I have been to many stores where they sell fabric, jewerly, shoes, etc. all to make the “traje valenciano” . My friend is a re-enactor (Saintonge) in the Boston area and he’s going to make me a dress of fabric I brought back. I share your love for the Spanish clothing. See the movie “Mad Love” about Juana La Loca — daughter of Ferdinand and mother of the Holy Roman Emperor Carlos I. The costumes are to die for!

I have pictures of one of the fabric stores in Valencia and would somehow bring back something for you if you like. I plan to go again probably in April of next year or so.

Sincerely, Sherry Madden
