  1. I can’t believe you described Moliere as dull! My family and I thought it was hilarious, a quainter Shakespeare in love.
And I adore Vatel too. Utter historical escapism for me, especially having visited a number of locations used, it really captures the glamour of it all and sheds an amusing light on politics that are run from the bedroom.

  2. Jez – to each their own! I knew when I posted that review of Moliere that I was going against the grain — so many of my friends loved that film. But I just post my opinions! 🙂

  3. Have you heard of The Devil’s Whore? An excellent miniseries about the English Civil War from 2008.

  4. Darnaguen: I’m not sure if it’s you who recommended it to me a few months back, but I hadn’t heard of it and a reader on this here blog recommended it, and I did watch it — and I have a review to post today!

  5. I really enjoyed “Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister”, if you can find a way to watch it. I’m not sure it was ever released on DVD.

  6. If you haven’t checked out “The Musketeers” on BBC (BBC America in the US), it’s definitely batting in your ballpark. Mostly male costumes and probably not that accurate, but I think it’s a fun watch.
