COMMENTARY

retro sewing

I have finally gotten around to subscribing to SewRetro, a mailing list for sewers of vintage style clothing from the 1930’s through the 1960’s. I’ve been a subscriber of h-costume for years and years to support my interests in Elizabethan through Victorian costuming, but have recently branched out into the 1940’s. I bought a ton of patterns on ebay, and currently have three dresses under way — Vintage Vogue 1943 dress which I’m making in a fabulous cherry print rayon, Vintage Vogue 1937 dress, which is pretty much finished (except for the hem) but doesn’t look too hot on me (I’m way too curvy for 1930’s styles, I think), and a vintage pattern I found on ebay. Now I just have to find some really good shoes to go with these dresses…
