Sewing Room!

In what should be a week of many updates, let’s start small! I’ve finished moving (falls over in exhaustion), and spent some time post-Costume College moving into and organizing my sewing room. This is my first ever sewing room – previously I would take over the living room in various small apartments, and then in our slightly bigger house, we had the sewing-room-that-I-let-my-husband-sleep-in.

It’s small, but it’s ALL MINE and has no giant bed taking up valuable room! The best part was going to Ikea and buying a modular wardrobe shelving set. It has standard shelves, but also mounted/pull-out plastic bins and this sectioned drawer, which provided a nice hour of organizing trims. Yay sewing room! It’s already been great to go in there, make a mess, and then shut the door on said mess until I’m ready to pick it up again. Plus there is now room for things like wigs-on-heads and wire and the patterns are all organized chronologically by era and…

  1. Congrats on getting a sewing room. I’m trying to get on top of mine as it got very messy after the Costume Con marathon sewing session!

It is nice to have a sewing room all to ones self. Especially one which can have a door shut on the mess!

  2. So jealous! Especially the shutting the door on the mess part.

    *looks at sewing/bedroom sadly*

    🙂

  3. Ohmigod yes I totally agree. I too got a sewing room from the Gods this year when we bought our house and I do believe my marriage got better because of it. My hubby no longer has to deal with sewing mess!

  4. YAY sewing room! I just spent two solid days clearing mine out (20+ bags of rubbish/recycling) and it’s only a small room. I should not be allowed my own space…

  5. Grrr. Jealous. My sewing room is in progress… Darling husband just sanded the floor this weekend…. the workbench is in… the windowsills and trim are up…

He promises to have it done by next month, when I bring home the loveseat I put on layaway.

I think the 3 court dresses, currently draped over every surface of the living room while they wait to be assembled, are hastening his progress.

  6. What’s the wardrobe unit called? Pull out bins would be better than the stacked bins I have.

  7. YAY for you!! Must see more pictures!! I am obsessed with organizing all my sewing stuff and having everything all nice and neat. I link those pull-out clear bins, good of all the lace and ribbon I have.
