Costume in Cinema

New costume movie reviews! The new ITV (UK TV) Northanger Abbey (which will be broadcast this fall on Masterpiece Theatre; the forthcoming Persuasion and Mansfield Park have also been reviewed, as I mentioned in a previous post) on the Regency page, Miss Potter on the Edwardian page, Evening and Wallis & Edward on the 20th century page.

Also, Trystan gave me the great idea to add links to Amazon for all the movies I review (and hopefully earn a few pennies towards the hosting of this site via Amazon Associates). So, should you want to support this site, and see a movie you’d like to buy on my review pages, I’d appreciate your click through to Amazon from the link next to the review. Thank-ee kindly!

  1. Just noticed you don’t have the Paul Newman “Great Gatsby” on your list. Have you seen it? If not, we should rent it & watch it some time. I love that one, he’s dreamy & it’s really very “Gatsby” like both the book & the party, imo. Would be a fun afternoon 🙂

  2. Yay for reviews! We seem to have very similar film tastes so it’s like having a personal reviewer…

I clicked on the Amazon link to the Cazalets and it has the option to add Love in a Cold Climate as a bundle offer thing – if I do that, do you still get the $, or is it better to click through from your reviews page on LIACC separately?

  3. Excellent question, Kate – I don’t know! Just buy what you want – that’s the important thing.

  4. We’re of one mind re: Miss Potter, which I’d really wanted to see in theatres but once I did see it–also on a plane–I was glad I hadn’t paid 10 bucks. My husband & I both thought it was underwritten(it was a 14 hour flight from Paris so we both watched everything), and played like a TV movie–not in a good way. The costuming wasn’t bad, however.
