Costume College Plans

It’s my usual refrain – I’m not dead! I’ve just been feeling strangely hermit-like. But I’m thinking about peeping my head out of my shell to talk about Costume College. My classes are nearly done, which is a good thing. Still some practicalities for the hair/makeup class to work out. What I’m going to wear is only semi-decided — I stopped working on the Florentine dress (bored with it!) and instead picked up the Daniel Deronda dress, only to have the DD dress morph into something else.

I’m sad b/c I love the dress from the film, but the fabric/design just kept tugging in another direction, so it’s now going to be my gala dress — but my hermitage has sapped my desire for online updates. So you’ll just have to be surprised! Tonight after work I have to head to Britex for ribbon, then this weekend (Fri-Sun) is going to be marathon sewing weekend. Luckily the hubby is out of town, so I can take over the house with my costume movies and make a big mess.

So that means — Thursday night: fabulous pink & black vintage 1950s dress that Trystan is going to kill me for; Friday night: Lady Maud; Saturday night: the-dress-that-used-to-be-the-Daniel-Deronda dress; Sunday morning underwear breakfast: probably my 18th c. undies; Sunday day: (for the tea) the chemise dress (I cave to peer pressure!). Civvies for Friday and Saturday days – I’m so much more comfortable teaching/going to classes in jeans plus that means I get to wake up 5 min. before breakfast.

I am getting excited about getting to hang out with all my costumer peeps, and see what you all have been sewing, and go to classes, and have pink drinks! Yay!

  1. ooo yes! It’s a totally unofficial thing someone started a year or two ago on Livejournal. Lots of people wear (costume) undies to breakfast on Sunday. Unfortunately it tends to work out that you just see people over at the buffet wearing undies (there’s no specific time/meeting place), but it’s still fun to show off the items that we usually cover up!

  2. You do realize I shall have plenty of opportunities to kill you & steal this dress, since we’re rooming together? Mwaahahahahahaa hahaahahahahaahaha hahahahaahahaha!

  3. Trystan: Luckily it’ll be about 10 sizes too big for you! Altho maybe that’s bad – you could cut it up and make multiple dresses. Hmm. Must see about putting locks on my suitcase… 😉

  4. Bigger is never a problem, imo! You’ll have to ply me w/pink drinks as distraction, lol.
