New Costume Movie Reviews

I have been WOEFULLY bad about keeping up with my costume movie watching, and actually pretty bad about watching any costume movies! I don’t know what happened — I got into this “tv/movie watching is wasted time!” mode. But I have gotten slightly better, and here’s the result – new reviews! The ITV Mansfield Park and Persuasion (just out in the UK a few months ago) on the Regency page; The Ruby in the Smoke: The Sally Lockhart Mysteries and The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton (both recent BBC productions) on the Victorian page; and Love in a Cold Climate and The Painted Veil on the 20th Century page. And the Upcoming Movies page is updated! Phew!

  1. The Ruby in the Smoke wasn’t all that it could be. Not a huge Billie Piper fan. I think everyone should go read the book instead, which is fantastic. I have fond memories of Love in a Cold Climate as it was one of the first Masterpiece Theatres I ever saw. It was also very clever and funny, like the book that I just had to read after watching the movie.
